Self-actualization

In The Art of Happiness, Howard Cutler and the Dalai Lama suggest that you should not ask people what they want. It will, according to them, cause dissatisfaction. Instead they suggest that you ask people to compare their lives to those of people in third-world countries. That will make them more comfortable.

They’re right!

But, I’m not interested in your comfort. I am interested in your magnificence. That can never be seen in comparisons, only in the absolutes of who you are and what you want.

You are born with a vast intelligence. That intelligence defines a function that yearns for full expression. Because we do not have the parameters or frames of reference and have few teachers to show us how to tap that intelligence we turn to the other method of information acquisition available to us, the mind. The mind is the tyrant in our heads that tells us how the world is, strives toward survival and attempts to keep us comfortable. It is the province of judgment, conclusion and comparison.

The mind is not the problem. Identification with the conclusions and survival/reactive nature of the mind is what pushes aside the curious intelligence that can set your life on the course to actualize the core function that is uniquely you.

Dis-identifying with the mind requires seeing clearly all of the glitches that hold you there and, more importantly, experiencing the possibilities that exist beyond.

This class is a hard-hitting challenge to be as magnificent as you are. It is not politically correct. There are no sacred cows here. In other classes we keep our focus entirely on what you want. This is important because your life will always go where your attention goes. In this class though, we will also look at the glitches that hold you back. We will look at the learned systemic dramas and the pain that keeps you playing small. Jung said, “Enlightenment comes not from imagining figures of light but by making the darkness visible”.

We don’t want to deal with your problems. They are hold no interest. Your dream, your spirit, your intelligence are fascinating. So we will look at those glitches and then forget them. Then, when we put our attention back on what you truly want, the dream is clearer. Then actions become obvious. We can drop our reactive way of being and begin to respond to life with our vast intelligence.

This class is only for those who want to see it all. It is for those who are willing to do whatever it takes to live the dream. It is for those who want to see that there is an alternative to a comparatively good life; those who know that hidden somewhere is a life that taps their intelligence and elicits their spirit.
